CanREA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022 will be held virtually on October 21, 2022, from 1 to 2 p.m. (ET). The AGM will provide members with a summary of CanREA’s key activities, the results of the 2022 CanREA Board Elections, and the next steps for the association.

Webinar — Build transfer agreements: Technical risk management for Canadian utilities

October 5, 2022, 1 pm (ET) 

There is new interest in different ownership models for renewables assets in Canada, as evidenced by utilities taking ownership stakes in, or full ownership of, wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities under development. Several variants of Build-Transfer Agreements (BTAs) are currently being deployed in Canada.

DNV and CanREA joined on October 5 for an educational webinar and to learn more about this topic!

DNV shared information on technical risk management with existing and emerging utility players in the marketplace. DNV also highlighted key elements to consider in the negotiations of the BTA agreements.  Specifically, DNV described how to best manage risk when negotiating the Asset Purchase Agreement (APA) or Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contract (EPC), and its recommendations for what constitutes best practice.

The third webinar in this series will focus on the critical issue of cybersecurity.

Canada’s critical-infrastructure defenders are currently being asked to bolster their awareness and protection against certain cyber-threats.

As the keepers of important power-generation assets, renewable-energy operations and maintenance professionals will play a critical role in keeping the lights on across the country, amidst targeted energy-infrastructure attacks. 

In this cybersecurity operations-focused webinar, you will hear from key organizations in North America’s cyber security awareness and defense network, who will speak directly to Canadian wind, solar and energy storage operators and service providers. This is an important webinar providing awareness and learning on cybersecurity issues that will be helpful for anyone using information and operational technology (IT/OT) in their daily work, whether their official title relates directly to cyber security or not. 

Michael Russell of the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security will provide an update on cyber security threats to Canada’s critical infrastructure and some resources for site staff to pursue.  

Andrew Lackey of the Energy Infrastructure Security Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) will provide some additional context and insight into what they are seeing, and the networks being established to protect Canada’s energy infrastructure against current and emerging threats.

On May 17, the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) held a special, in-person networking reception in Calgary, bringing together nearly 100 CanREA members, electricity sector innovators and business leaders. It was a must-attend event for people with an interest in the wind energy, solar energy, and energy-storage sectors in Alberta.  

CanREA’s Alberta Networking Reception brought together nearly 100 CanREA members, electricity sector innovators and business leaders in Calgary.

“The event was very well attended, and people were excited to have the opportunity to meet again face to face after a challenging couple of years,” said Robert Hornung, President and CEO of CanREA. “The atmosphere was extremely positive, reflecting the same energy and vibrancy we see in the Alberta market right now, which continues to be Canada’s leading destination for wind, solar and storage investment in Canada.”

When it comes to renewable energy, the Alberta advantage is clear for all to see. Wind and solar energy continue to grow at an unprecedented rate across the province, with more than 2,100 MW of wind capacity and 458 MW of solar capacity already installed, and at least 2,500 MW of additional capacity expected in the next couple of years.

The opportunities keep growing and the industry keeps delivering in Alberta, in keeping with CanREA’s 2050 Vision.

CanREA Networking Reception – Quebec

CanREA Golf Tournament – Ontario

Thank you to all the Canadian renewable-energy industry leaders who joined us in London, Ontario, for an exclusive golf tournament, attracting more than 65 players.

The golf tournament was a unique opportunity for CanREA members to connect while entertaining important clients on the fairway — and in the club afterwards.

It was a sunny, 27-degree day as players enjoyed 18 holes of golf, along with a BBQ lunch, networking reception, dinner and prizes presentation. 

Unfortunately, no golfers won the $10,000 hole-in-one prize, but Douglas Proska of member company Compass Energy Consulting got extremely close! 

Congrats to all of our prize winners! You earned it!
