CanREA Networking Reception – Quebec

April 28, 2022
Hotel Bonaventure
Montréal, Quebec

The Canadian Renewable Energy Association was pleased to host a special networking reception for Quebec in spring 2022. This was a must-attend event for people with an interest in the wind energy, solar and energy-storage sectors in Quebec — and across Canada.

Thanks to all who helped make our Quebec Networking Reception a huge success. Nearly 100 CanREA members and special guests joined us in Montreal on April 28. It was great reconnecting with everyone face-to-face and networking with key players in Quebec’s wind, solar and energy storage sectors.

Prior to the networking reception, CanREA’s Quebec Caucus met in person for a special session to discuss our main objectives, featuring a presentation from Hydro-Québec on their Strategic Plan 2022-2026.

Particular thanks to our event partner AQPER (Quebec Association for Renewable Energy Production), networking sponsor Pattern Canada, and event sponsors Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, EDF Renewables and Goldwind USA Inc.

CanREA Golf Tournament – Ontario

Thank you to all the Canadian renewable-energy industry leaders who joined us in London, Ontario, for an exclusive golf tournament, attracting more than 65 players.

The golf tournament was a unique opportunity for CanREA members to connect while entertaining important clients on the fairway — and in the club afterwards.

It was a sunny, 27-degree day as players enjoyed 18 holes of golf, along with a BBQ lunch, networking reception, dinner and prizes presentation.

Unfortunately, no golfers won the $10,000 hole-in-one prize, but Douglas Proska of member company Compass Energy Consulting got extremely close!

Congrats to all of our prize winners! You earned it!

Phil McKay, the Senior Director of Operations at the Canadian Renewable Energy Association, thanked everyone for helping to make this CanREA Golf Tournament a success.

“Your participation makes a real difference for CanREA and our industry: This golf tournament raises funds that go straight to supporting CanREA’s core services, working for our members to ensure wind energy, solar energy and energy storage play a central role in transforming Canada’s energy mix,” he said.

If you missed the Ontario tournament but would like to link up with CanREA members out west, join us at our Calgary tournament on June 14 at the Blue Devil Golf Course in Calgary.

We hope to see you there!

Energy Storage Webinar

In this webinar, the lead author of CanREA’s new whitepaper, “Laying the Foundation: Six priorities for supporting the decarbonization of Canada’s electricity grid with energy storage,” presented CanREA’s perspective on what is required to advance energy storage in Canada.

Laying the Foundation follows up on fundamental points made in CanREA’s 2050 Vision document, Powering Canada’s Journey to Net-Zero, which demonstrates that energy storage is one of the vital elements for creating the clean and reliable electricity grid of the future.

This webinar provided key information on the diversity and flexibility of energy-storage technologies and introduce CanREA’s six priorities for facilitating the deployment of energy storage in electricity markets across Canada.

Agenda

  • Six priorities for supporting the decarbonization of Canada’s electricity grid with energy storage
  • Diversity and flexibility of energy-storage technologies
  • Q&A

Speaker

Leonard Olien, Director for Energy Storage, Canadian Renewable Energy Association

Leonard Olien leads the design and implementation of CanREA’s plan for advancing energy storage in Canada. He is the author of CanREA’s new energy storage whitepaper, “Laying the Foundation: Six priorities for supporting the decarbonization of Canada’s electricity grid with energy storage.” Leonard started performing storage-dispatch analysis in 2011 and has spent many years as a consultant in electricity markets and renewable energy in Canada, the US and Ireland. He holds an MSc in Mathematics from McGill University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematical Finance at the University of Calgary. Exclusive launch event: CanREA’s 2050 vision

November 17, 2021

9 to 9:45 a.m. ET

As Canada sets out on a transformative journey to reach net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, we need a powerful boost from wind energy, solar energy and energy-storage technologies. But what does this mean? How will it work? What must change to make it possible? And is the industry ready? Participants found out exactly how the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) sees things at this exclusive launch event for “Powering Canada’s Journey to Net-Zero: CanREA’s 2050 Vision.”

CanREA launched its new 2050 Vision document at the Opening Plenary session of Electricity Transformation Canada, Canada’s largest renewable energy and storage industry conference and exhibition. CanREA’s President and CEO, Robert Hornung, presented CanREA’s vision for the future, including the role wind, solar and energy storage must play to achieve Canada’s net-zero journey, the scale of the effort required, and the actions that need to be taken immediately to drive success.

Following Hornung’s presentation, stakeholders representing a range of interests, including speakers from Microsoft, National Bank of Canada, QUEST Canada, Greengate Power and the Pembina Institute, discussed the relevance of CanREA’s Vision for their communities of interest, and for Canada as a whole.

CanREA’s 2050 Vision is a call to action, calling on Canada to dramatically accelerate the deployment of wind, solar, and energy storage as the core element in a massive expansion of clean electricity production to meet this country’s legislated target of net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
