Launched in 2025, CanREA’s Utility GRID Integration program aims to accelerate the energy transition by supporting the integration of clean, affordable and reliable electricity into Canada’s power grids. It is designed for Canada’s electrical utilities and an expanded group of organizations working to integrate renewable energy and energy storage into Canada’s networks, which we have termed “GRID”:
- Governments (including municipalities, provinces, federal agencies, etc.)
- Regulators
- ISOs
- Distributors and NGOs
The GRID Program evolved from CanREA’s Electricity Transition Hub (2022-2025), which successfully brought together electricity utilities and system operators for capacity-building activities related to renewable energy and grid modernization projects in Canada. The Hub was an independent CanREA program funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways (SREPs) program. Read the original funding announcement here.
The Utility GRID Integration Program captures the progress, knowledge-sharing and mobilization work established over three years of Hub operations and combines this with all the benefits of CanREA membership, such as:
- Regular GRID program meetings (approximately eight per year)
- Support by dedicated CanREA staff
- Quarterly GRID newsletter
- Access to CanREA’s BTM Solar and Storage Program
- Regular CanREA policy and market newsletters and press releases
- Annual data summary reports
- Event discounts
- Access to the Electricity Transition Hub library, CanREA’s online repository of relevant information and best practices
The Electricity Transition Hub Library is CanREA’s central repository for reports, articles, news, events and CanREA content on the energy transition. As a member, you gain exclusive access to thousands of curated, organized and tagged resources for easy searches on technical, regulatory, and market topics, including original content, webcast recordings, interactive tools and more.
All Canadian utilities, governments (municipal, provincial, federal), regulators, ISOs, distributors and NGOs are welcome to join the Utility GRID Integration program.
For more information, visit the CanREA membership page or contact our membership team.
Together, we can help accelerate the integration of affordable, reliable, and clean electricity into Canada’s power grids.
