Alberta is by far Canada’s largest producer of oil, accounting for around 84% of the country’s production in 2024, according to the Canadian government. Consequently it aligns closely with the Conservatives stated aims of ramping up fossil fuel production as a means of pushing Canada’s energy security.
On the other hand, the province is currently adding more renewable energy capacity per year than any other in Canada, and accounted for more than 90% of new renewable energy additions in Canada in 2023, according to the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA). Read more.
