Ottawa, August 26, 2026—Today, Vittoria Bellissimo, President and CEO of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), released the following statement in response to unjustified U.S. tariffs:
“CanREA is deeply concerned about the impact of these unjustified U.S. tariffs on Canadian workers and wind, solar and energy storage businesses. These tariffs will increase costs and put pressure on Canadian companies, including CanREA members, that have built businesses and created jobs as part of a deeply integrated North American economy.
We support the Government of Canada’s efforts to defend Canadian workers, businesses and our economic interests, and welcome measures to support those affected. We encourage governments at all levels to continue working with industry to address the impacts of U.S. tariffs and Canadian counter-tariffs.
At a time of growing electricity demand and economic challenges, a strong Canadian wind, solar and energy storage industry will be increasingly important to Canada’s energy security, economic resilience and competitiveness.
