Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, elle a constitu\u00e9 la forme de puissance install\u00e9e la plus importante au pays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une \u00e9olienne utilise la force du vent pour produire de l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9&nbsp;: lorsque le vent souffle, il fait tourner les pales d\u2019un rotor reli\u00e9 \u00e0 un arbre d\u2019entra\u00eenement, qui \u00e0 son tour fait fonctionner une g\u00e9n\u00e9ratrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La production d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 par \u00e9nergie \u00e9olienne ne produit ni gaz \u00e0 effet de serre, ni pollution de l\u2019air ou de l\u2019eau, ni d\u00e9chets toxiques ou dangereux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il existe des \u00e9oliennes de toutes tailles, qui peuvent \u00eatre d\u00e9ploy\u00e9es selon diff\u00e9rentes configurations. Au Canada, l\u2019immense majorit\u00e9 des \u00e9oliennes sont terrestres et install\u00e9es par des entreprises dans des projets aux configurations et aux envergures diverses pour alimenter directement le r\u00e9seau \u00e9lectrique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le plus grand parc \u00e9olien au pays, celui de Blackspring Ridge, compte 166&nbsp;\u00e9oliennes; il est situ\u00e9 dans le comt\u00e9 de Vulcan, en Alberta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019autre bout du spectre, des collectivit\u00e9s comme Richibucto et Rexton, au Nouveau-Brunswick, ont install\u00e9 une seule \u00e9olienne pour alimenter leur r\u00e9seau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Partout au Canada, des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s, des Premi\u00e8res Nations, des municipalit\u00e9s et des organismes communautaires ont install\u00e9 des \u00e9oliennes. Ces projets entra\u00eenent d\u2019importantes retomb\u00e9es \u00e9conomiques pour les centaines de collectivit\u00e9s qui les accueillent, par le versement d\u2019imp\u00f4ts fonciers aux municipalit\u00e9s, de paiements de location aux propri\u00e9taires fonciers ou de contributions financi\u00e8res directes. M\u00eame si cela est moins courant, il arrive aussi que de petites \u00e9oliennes soient install\u00e9es pour alimenter directement une maison, un chalet ou une petite entreprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale, il se construit de plus en plus de grands parcs \u00e9oliens marins, qui tirent profit de la force et de la constance des vents oc\u00e9aniques. Le Canada n\u2019en compte pas encore, mais il y a des projets dans les cartons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si l\u2019\u00e9nergie solaire, l\u2019\u00e9nergie \u00e9olienne et le stockage d\u2019\u00e9nergie sont des technologies bien distinctes, ce sont aussi des alli\u00e9s naturels.
