Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA)-Membership Sales Manager

The Role

Are you an energetic sales professional with a strong ability to connect with people? Do you excel in sales meetings with a keen ability to understand the goals and needs of a company and then compellingly offer solutions to help them achieve their strategic goals? Are you a master at driving potential customers towards a sales decision to “close the deal”? Are you passionate about renewable energy and have a good knowledge of (or the ability to quickly learn about) the Canadian renewable energy industry and market? If you answered yes to all these questions, then you may be a good candidate for CanREA’s new Membership Sales Manager position. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about sustainability, the environment, and wants to play an active role in transforming Canada’s energy mix.

Reporting to the Vice President, Business Development, Finance and Operations, the Membership Sales Manager will be driving membership recruitment and membership upgrade sales activities, by building and maintaining relationships, and managing prospect lists and tracking sales progress and success. This is a contract role with possible extension or transition to full-time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to implement membership recruitment and membership upgrade sales activities through various sales outreach techniques, and coordinate and prepare the appropriate CanREA team members as required to participate in top prospect sales meetings.
  • Clearly understand, articulate, and present the CanREA value proposition to prospective member companies and current members, illustrating the enormous market opportunity for renewable energy industry in Canada, while communicating CanREA’s benefits and membership levels.  
  • Initiate and foster relationships with prospective and current member companies with the aim to foster opportunities to recruit new members and to encourage existing member to increase their engagement in the Association.
  • Manage and update prospect lists through CanREA’s Association Management System (i.e., Wicket Database), in collaboration with the Membership Sales Assistant.
  • Track and monitor sales progress and success, and provide the executive management with update reports.
  • Assist in achieving Membership Recruitment and Membership Upgrade revenue targets, in collaboration with the Membership and Business development Team, as established by the CanREA executive.
  • Research prospective companies to better understand the business sectors they operate in and their corporate objectives, in collaboration with the Membership Sales Assistant, with the aim to provide them with membership solutions based on CanREA’s value proposition.
  • Stay up to date on renewable energy industry news and market trends through conversations with industry players and the CanREA Policy Team, and the monitoring of CanREA news, industry news articles, online publications, social media feeds, etc.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as determined my Executive Management as required.


  • University degree in a relevant area of study or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 4 years minimum experience working in sales-based and client-facing functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sales techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and “closing the deal” skills; ability to synthesize complex ideas and communicate them to both internal and external stakeholder audiences in a straightforward, easy to understand manner.
  • Strong ability to address buying obstacles and quickly provide solutions.
  • Strong market and company research skills.
  • General knowledge of the renewable and energy storage industry is an asset.
  • Experience working with or for non-profit industry or membership-based associations an asset.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. French (written and spoken) is an asset.
  • Ability to balance independence with productive teamwork, thanks to your strong work ethic, conscientiousness, time-management skills, organizational abilities, emotional intelligence and two-way communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining discretion, tact, good judgement, respect for others and a sense of humour, even when moving at top speed or adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven, with a high-level of energy, enthusiasm and initiative.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Curiosity, eagerness to learn.
  • Strong knowledge of software systems including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and information management systems (i.e., database systems).
  • Experience working in a remote capacity, with all its perks and pitfalls.


  • Three weeks paid vacation.
  • Paid time off Dec 20 to Jan 1.

Our team has moved to an entirely remote working arrangement. Occasional travel (10-20%) is anticipated in future, mainly across Canada.
